Robitussin Gives Me Hives…?

Question by peace: Robitussin gives me hives…?
im 14…
so I got this cold like a little less than 2 weeks ago, then it went away for a few days, then this girl rudely coughed right in my face while my mouth was open (didn’t even apologize!), and now i have a really bad cold again…i have a bad cough and a really runny nose and my head just feels all pressured and stuffed and what not..so my mom and i went to the store and there was a ton of cold medicines and of course the only one that fit my description well was, God forbid, Robitussin. I remember taking robitussin when i was like in the 4th grade…all i remember is having this MAJOR hives breakout…like it was bad…i constantly had Benadryl all over me…so anyways at the store i told my mom that the last time i took Robitussin i got a really bad hives breakout (this was when i was living with my dad so my mom didn’t know about it) she was just like “well thats all i see that works, so you might as well try it”..i was in such a crappy mood and felt so sick and crappy i was like, what the heck, i’ll take it…wow am i an idiot…so now i have really itchy hives on my upper arms, neck, upper back, and my head…? it seems kind of strange that i have it like ALL over my head, not on my face, but like all over my scalp and stuff…is that normal? and is this an allergic reaction? and is there another medicine i could be taking instead of Robitussin? because i still feel sick but obviously i am not taking anymore Robitussin…sorry that this was so long thanks in advance!

You need to realize that drug companies are NOT OUR FRIENDS. Can you name ANY disease that drug companies have supplied a drug for that has cured that disease in the last 200 years of their existence from the human race. Just ONE.

Drugs are designed to “Relieve symptoms and manage diseases.” They don’t cure anything. Anytime you suppress a symptom from a cold, you are going AGAINST your own body’s immune system that is designed to heal and CURE you. Lowering your temperature prevents your body from killing bacteria and viruses. Stopping the mucus flow from your nose, prevents the body from getting rid of germs, etc., etc. So when you use those drugs, you are slowing the healing process down and damaging your body in most cases.

Yes, there are times when a drug can help you or even save your life, but those instances are far and few between.

Drugs commonly taken for a variety of common medical conditions negatively affect your brain, causing long term cognitive impairment. These drugs, called anticholinergics, block acetylcholine, a nervous system neurotransmitter.

They include such common over-the-counter brands as BENADRYL that you took, Dramamine, Excedrin PM, Nytol, Sominex, Tylenol PM, and Unisom. Other anticholinergic drugs, such as Paxil, Detrol, Demerol and Elavil are available only by prescription.

Physorg July 13, 2010 reports: “Researchers conducted a six-year observational study, evaluating 1,652 Indianapolis area African-Americans over the age of 70 who had normal cognitive function when the study began taking one anticholinergic significantly increased an individual’s risk of developing mild cognitive impairment and taking two of these drugs doubled this risk.'”

Hives do not happen out of thin air. Something caused them to happen, right? So taking one drug to solve another drug’s problem should not sound like something you want to do I hope. Doctors attempt to play God in many cases, but really do not have those credentials, when prescribing many drugs to relieve symptoms.

You got a cold for a reason as well. A cold should last a couple days if you are healthy. Most colds last 1 to 2 weeks with people living in America and that should be very telling, but it is just accepted. Your diet, amount of exercise, and the quality of the food you eat plays a big role in promoting sickness in America today. 53% of ALL Americans are now CHRONICALLY ill. 80% are overweight and 30% OBESE. 10% have diabetes. Cancer is fast gaining on heart disease for the number one killer disease in America. Does all this sound like progress? And yet, we look to our illustrious medical system as if it were this great savior of the world. IT IS NOT and in fact, it actually kills more people than any single major disease.

In July 2004, Gary Null Ph.D, Carolyn Dean M.D., N.D, Martin Feldman M.D., Debora Rasio M.D., Dorothy Smith Ph.D. wrote a paper that revealed very disturbing facts regarding an annual iatrogenic (induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures) death rate of 783,936 in one year. It is further disturbing to realize that as few as 5 percent and only up to 20 percent of iatrogenic acts are ever reported. This means that that iatrogenic death rate of 783,936 is much higher.

As we look at the causes of death from degenerative diseases and other causes in America in 2004, it is obvious we are not good at solving this problem on any level. Deaths from: Heart Disease 652,000, Cancer 553,000, and Stroke 150,000.

When comparing the iatrogenic acts of modern medicine in America with the statistical numbers of people dying of any particular disease, it is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. And when we look at the cost of these iatrogenic deaths, the cost is in the billions.

A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million. Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million.

Good luck to you

I’ve never heard of this but no drug is innocuous. I’d not take it and have a physician check it out.
