Fake Police Officers Searched My Room?

Question by pumpkin: Fake Police Officers Searched My Room?
I live with my sister and her husband. Well sunday morning I went to work and 20 minutes later 3 “detectives” showed up at my sisters house while her husband was there. There were 2 males and a female dressed in suits that came in one undercover police car. The white male showed my brother in law a badge and asked for me by my first and last name. My brother in law confirmed that i resided there and the lady “detective” flashed a document claiming it was a warrant and my brother in law being scared to death and knowing I was innocent consented to the search. They claimed my cell phone number which they knew…was linked to a cell phone number that is involved in commiting multiple crimes around Indianapolis. They even knew what I drove in description. They all had guns holstered to their hip and the black male made my bro in law stay outside while the white female and male searched the house and especially my room destroying it. Throwing all my stuff out on my floor and going through everything…even asking my bro in law to remove my snake so they could search his tank. They left saying they would be in touch not leaving any information. When I came home I was totally confused as to what had happened and his story of what happened sounded way off. So I call 911 demanding information and dispatch informs me that no personnel was sent out let alone issued a search warrant. I demand an officer to be sent to my home. He shows up and takes my statement and double checks the system. They were definately not police officers nor detectives. He said they were looking for drugs or money or anything they could use to steal my identity. I cleaned up my room and discovered they had stolen a book of checks out of the 5 books i had and nothing else. I dont understand! How and why did this happen to me? I dont do drugs nor am i involved with anyone who does. What do they want from me and why go through all this trouble. I am just a single 20 year old female living with my sister making minimum wage. Please anyone with any advice or explainations on what i should do dont hesitate to do so.

You did the correct thing by calling the police. It appears you may have been a victim of a scam and/or identity theft. I recommend you close the checking account. The police officer, if the complaint is indeed legitimate, will catalog the “M.O.” and continue his investigation. It is quite difficult to distinguish the validity of a search warrant, especially if you have never seen one before. You are probably not the only one victimized in this manner, and most likely, others may come forward. The more people that report the crime, the more likely the perpetrators will be apprehended. Good luck.
