Hyacinth King: Formerly Homeless Advocate

Hyacinth King: Formerly Homeless Advocate – Hyacinth King used to be homeless living in an appliance box on the streets of Philadelphia. She suffered from mental illness and substance abuse problems that made it difficult to escape homelessness. Now as a long time resident at Project HOME she has gotten the help she needed to turn her life around and help others who are homeless do the same. Hyacinth is an advocate for the rights of homeless people and helps with Project HOME’s street outreach program by sharing her own stories to connect with others. Project HOME is an organization in Philadelphia that helps homeless individuals break the cycle of homelessness through street outreach, supportive housing, community development, educational opportunities, and employment. By addressing the root causes of poverty and homelessness, Project HOME strives to end homelessness and advocate for social and political change on behalf of homeless and low-income individuals.
